David Wong
Director
 
Education and Experience:

David Wong is currently the Regional Executive of Manulife Financial for South East Asia, in charge of the four Manulife operations in Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

David has 29 years of experience in the insurance and financial industry (with one Company – Manulife Financial) and has extensive management experience in general management, agency distribution, information technology, underwriting, customer service and market research in Canada, the United States, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Vietnam.

A graduate of the University of Waterloo, Canada, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics majoring in Computer Science, David went on to complete his MBA program at the University of Toronto, majoring in International Business.

He joined Manulife in Canada in 1981 and has worked in Canadian Group Life and Health, Canadian Group Pensions and U.S. Individual Insurance operations. He was transferred to Manulife Asia Operations in 1996, and had the role as General Manager for the Macau branch and the role of head of distribution for Hong Kong Manulife. Under his leadership, the Manulife Hong Kong agency increased its productivity and captured the No.2 market share position in Individual insurance and Mandatory Pension Fund (MPF) sales in Hong Kong.

David was transferred to Vietnam in 2006 as the CEO & Country Head of Manulife Vietnam from 2006 to 2009 over seeing the Life Operations (MVL) and the Asset management Operations (MVFM). Under his leadership, MVFM launched its first retail Vietnam mutual fund in 2007, one of the three public traded retail mutual fund in Vietnam. On the life operations, he doubled the number of agents and triple the insurance sales in three years. And he was awarded "Outstanding Contribution to Insurance Industry Award" by Vietnam Ministry of Finance in 2009 due to his leadership and contribution in launching the first commercially successful micro-insurance in Vietnam.

Robert Andrew

Education and Experience:

Robert Andrew is Vice President and Head of ASEAN Investments. In this role, Robert is based in the company’s regional office in Hong Kong and oversees investment activities in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

Robert joined MFC Global from ABN AMRO Asset Management in Singapore where he was Head of Asia Pacific Fixed Income. Robert’s previous roles with the company included time as a Senior Portfolio Manager in its global markets group in London and as Head of Investments for Singapore. Prior to joining ABN AMRO, Robert also spent time as a Fixed Income Manager at the Reserve Bank of Australia. Robert has more than 18 years experience in asset management.

Robert has received multiple awards including 'National Australia Bank scholarship prize in Economics' (1988), 'Economic Society prize in Economics' (1989) and 'Reserve Bank of Australia graduate cadetship' (1989).

Mr. Alan Ng

Education and Experience:

Mr. Alan Ng, appointee as President and CEO for Manulife Thailand, has worked and held various senior positions in the Hong Kong operation of Manulife from 1998 to 2010.

Mr. Ng started off as Head of Sales and Marketing for pension business in 1998. The Mandatory Provident Funds Schemes Ordinance (MPFSO) which requires all employers to enroll their employees to a provident funds scheme was being enacted in 1998 and in fact, became effective in December 2000. Mr. Ng positioned Manulife as a brand with strong agency and customer service and the strategy has met with overwhelming success especially in the SME market. Despite serious competition from major competitors such as banks, insurance companies and investment companies, Manulife secured a solid number two position in market share.

In 2002, Mr. Ng was transferred and became Head of Product Development for the Individual Financial Business. His mandate was to manage the product portfolio, identify product gaps, and develop innovative products and campaigns to grow the business. Amongst many successful product launch, the one that was most captivating was called Premier Life Critical Illness Plan (PLCIP). This is a whole life critical illness plan with a level premium structure, entitling customers who are struck with critical illness to a second medical opinion by leading, reputable hospitals in the United States. The plan has captured significant attention in the market and generated significant business for the Individual Financial Business.

In 2007, Mr. Ng was appointed Head of Agency Training and Development. He led a team of training professionals to deliver initial training to new advisors, financial training to experienced advisors and management training to agency leaders and managers. Mr. Ng set the vision to enhance professionalism of the Hong Kong agency force and led the agency team to participate in a financial planning award organized by South China Morning Post (SCMP) and Institute of Financial Planners (IFPHK). For four years in a row, from 2007 to 2010, Manulife won the Award and was honored as Best Company for Financial Planning Excellence (insurance category).

And in 2008, Mr. Ng took up additional responsibility to start up a new marketing area to support the Agency (Agency Customer Marketing). He applied agency management concept such as activity management to get agents to work on marketing campaigns . The strategy has delivered extraordinary campaign results but perhaps most important of all, he has helped Hong Kong agency management embrace activity management as a core daily management activity.

Mr. Ng holds an MBA degree from the University of Hong Kong. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree with major in Physics and minor in Statistics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Mr. Sa-Ngiem Garnjanawigai

Education and Experience:

Sa-Ngiem has more than 21 years of experience in professional firms. Throughout his career, he has held a variety of senior positions including a Senior Auditor in SGVN (a Local Partner firm of Arthur Andersen Group) and a Senior MIS Consultant at Coopers & Lybrand Associates.

Most recently, he spent the past 13 years at Thanachart Fund Management Co., Ltd., where he took several key roles of responsibilities such as Head of Finance & Accounting, Head of Marketing Department Provident Fund, Head of Customer Service and Registrar, and Head of the Office of the President.

Sa-Ngiem has a BA in Accounting, Thammasat University and MBA in Finance, Bangkok University.He also holds the Certified Public Accountant Thailand License, Investor Contact License, Fund Manager License, and attended the Director Certification Program of the Institution of Director.
